01-July-04 An EWR Reprint, JULY 2004 Early Warning Report
Richard Maybury Most Serious Warning EverIn politics, one of the few things you can be certain about is, those who take away your liberty are not doing it to benefit you. I warn often about the government using the war as a pretext to tear up the Bill of Rights. Wars are always, among other things, the power junkie's excuse to become the tyranny he professes to be fighting. |

Freedom - Both Social and Economic |
|

The Left believes in social, but not economic freedom. We ask, "Why does a person's 'Right to Choose' stop at abortion?" It should encompass all of your life, as long as you don't violate the rights of another. Taxing to re-distribute wealth is not a legitimate government function. Social engineering is evil. The Right believes in economic, but not social freedom. We ask, "What makes that different than the crushing theocracies we see in the Middle East, or the communist regimes in Eastern Europe and China?" Freedom means separation of church and state, separation of school and state, indeed separation of everything from state, except legitimate public safety and defense functions. Legislating morality is evil. Before the so-called Progressives subverted the term, Liberal used to mean social, and economic, and political, and religious, and educational, and any other kind of freedom. We think a return to this classic liberalism is overdue. Come join the new American Revolution. |

Remarks before the Santa Clara City Council, 15 January 2008 "There are two types of people in this world..." How many times have you heard that as the opening line of a story, usually a joke? I bring this up for a story that is not a joke. Whether it will be a tragedy is still to be determined by the Council and by the voters of Santa Clara.
In this case there are two types of economist. |

Remarks to Santa Clara City Council on the subject of proposed stadium spending. Brian Darby 11 December 2007
With these hands I make a good living. This muscle and bone, brain and heart produce value that I exchange for food, shelter, and shoes. I exchange that value to secure my present and prepare for my future. |
